Learning is an inherently social process, but many of our online initiatives are isolating, separating learners from each other and failing to engage beyond the ‘next’ button.
If we want to create moments of critical thought, real problem-solving learning, then we need to bring the social back. However, talking isn’t teaching. Making effective social learning experiences isn’t often an accident. More often it is a deliberate and well thought-out process, which takes expertise to scaffold and facilitate.
This full-day workshop will introduce participants to a method of developing online social learning that harnesses existing content and challenges participants to contribute back to the experience. We already have a huge amount of content at our disposal; content we have created in our organizations already, content we pick up off-the-shelf or content that we source for free from the Internet. Putting this content to use as the basis of a social learning initiative could be game-changing strategy for your organisation.
We will introduce a range of technology tools that learning designers might use to take a more social, curation-based approach to developing learning experiences. Using these tools, learners will break into teams to create a social learning experience of their choosing. These experiences will be highly social in nature, asking learners to comment and curate content, to answer peer-reviewed questions and to contribute back to the environments.
Participants in this course will gain an in-depth understanding of how to use the Social Learning playbook to design a social learning experience.
The course will allow them to apply the skills and knowledge to the development of a social learning experience specific to their business or work context.
